Wind

Hawaii has plenty of potential for using renewable energy in the form of wind. Imagine if 100 GE 3.6 MW Series Wind Turbines were placed either offshore or on land at Southpoint on the Big Island! This would be more than enough electricity for the entire Big Island's needs. During the night when demand is low this wind farm could produce hydrogen to be stored for future use when winds abate so that the hydrogen could be used to fuel a generator for the HELCO grid. This is a totally green project without a carbon footprint. Project One will demonstrate that this can be done, while Project Two will accomplish it.

According to a [1]Reuters report, "U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar gave the green light for the 130-turbine, 420-megawatt Cape Wind project in Horseshoe Shoal, Nantucket Sound, in what supporters considered a huge step forward for renewable energy in the United States.

'This project fits with the tradition of sustainable development in the area,' Salazar said in Boston.

Although small in terms of its production -- the $1 billion facility would produce enough electricity to power about 400,000 houses -- its approval raises hopes that other offshore wind projects will follow."

The [2]Associated Press also reported on this as well.

We need to put 100 of these on the Big Island at South Point.
