Pakini Nui Wind Farm
The Pakini Nui Wind Farm in South Point, Hawaii operated by Tawhiri Power LLC, a jointly owned subsidiary of the Apollo Energy Corporation and EFS-G LLC, are fourteen GE 1.5 MW SE turbines used to deliver nearly 21 MW of electrical energy to the local power grid. Wind speed at the northern and southern tips of the island are the highest according to Heco. Wind power density is the highest at these two points as well.
The entire Big Island of Hawaii currently uses around 300 Megawatts every day. 200 GE 1.5 MW SE turbines could supply the entire needs for the Big Island. On the North end of the Big Island is the Hawi Wind Farm.
GE now produces a 3.6 MW Wind Turbine which means that 100 of these new larger capacity turbines would produce more than enough electricity for the entire Big Island. During high peak winds excess electricity could be used to make hydrogen. The hydrogen could then be used as a renewable energy fuel to produce electricity when the wind abates keeping a steady flow of power into the Big Island Helco Grid. Project One will demonstrate how this can be done as a prototype.
