Open Source is a movement that has been going on for some time now since the internet began. The fundamental idea is that the internet should be free and the software should also be free as in free speech, not free beer. There are basically two camps who have diverged from this movement, the Open Source Initiative and the Free Software Foundation. There may be other divergences from these two camps, but these two will give you an idea of what is going on. This movement has the proprietary software corporations scrambling to keep up with this movement to try to stay one step ahead of this community who has banned together bringing incredible software to the world for free download and implementation. Most of the Dream Green site is using open source software including this WikiMedia and allows many to come together to collaborate together for a single cause such as Dream Green.

One of the benefits of Open Source is how a community of people can get together for a common cause through utilizing software to accomplish a common goal.
