Hawi Wind Farm

Hawi Wind Farm
The Hawi Wind Farm on the North end of the Big Island produces 10 megawats of power to the local power grid. Multiplying this wind farm thirty times will produce enough electricity for the current needs of the island. On the South end of the Big Island is the Pakiniui Nui Wind Farm. Wind speed at the northern and southern tips of the island are the highest according to Heco. Wind power density is the highest at these two points as well.
GE now produces a 3.6 MW Wind Turbine which means that 100 of these new larger capacity turbines would produce more than enough electricity for the entire Big Island. During high peak winds excess electricity could be used to make hydrogen. The hydrogen could then be used as a renewable energy fuel to produce electricity when the wind abates keeping a steady flow of power into the Big Island Helco Grid. Project One will demonstrate how this can be done as a prototype.
